Amba Greene has been exploring and teaching holistic health and nutrition for over 35 years. With friends, she opened the first natural foods restaurant and food co-op in upstate New York in the early 1970's and since then has personally practiced, taught and cooked in many of the different dietary perspectives from both the western and eastern traditions.
With this understanding of "food as medicine" she continued her exploration of food, diet, and holistic health. Her journey brought her to many different teachers and teachings; to many diverse cultures and traditions; and to a wide range of healing art modalities.
When introduced to Ayurveda, the ancient holistic health system from India, she immediately knew that this tradition of health and wellness encompassed all of her deepest passions.
Amba is a certified Ayurvedic Practitioner and Educator who has trained with the foremost teachers and doctors teaching in the west today including Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. Robert Svoboda, Dr. John Douillard, Dr. Sunil Joshi, Dr. Jay Apte and Dr. Shekhar Annambhotla during her rigorous education and training at the Kripalu School of Ayurveda in western Massachusetts. In addition, she has completed hundreds of hours of advanced training in specialized aspects of Ayurveda, including Pancha Karma and Marma Therapy.
Ayurveda is based on the understanding that each of us has a unique, one-of-a-kind fundamental constitution, that when in balance, creates the foundation for health and when out of balance, leads to physical and mental symptoms that inevitably manifest as disease.
Working with the understanding that a few small changes can make a huge difference, Amba individually customizes programs that involve food recommendations, daily living routines, herbs, supplements, essential oils, massage and body treatments, skin care, exercise, breathing techniques, relaxation, stress management and sense therapies.
As a Licensed Massage Therapist, she is excited to offer the wealth of Ayurvedic Body Treatments and Therapies, such as abhyanga, swedana, marma and more from her Vero Beach, Florida office.
Amba is certified with Yoga Alliance as an ERYT-500 or an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher with many hours of both training and teaching. She is a Senior Kali Natha Yoga Instructor and a long-time student of the American-born Spiritual Teacher and Yoga Master, Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati, of Kashi Ashram, Sebastian, Florida, under whose guidance she was personally trained in yoga practices as well as esoteric vedic teachings, until Ma's passing in April 2012.
After having been introduced to chanting and kirtan in New York City in 1975 by Krishna Das and Bhagavan Das, she traveled extensively in India in 1978 and immersed herself in the sounds of this ancient art. As the head kirtan wala of Kashi Ashram, she is in charge of kirtan for all the weekly gatherings, holy days and festivals. She executive produced and performed on the Kashi Ashram CD, "Songs of the River.". Since 1998, she has studied Sound and its Healing Potential with Pandit Mukesh Desai, foremost disciple of the great North Indian classical singer, Pandit Jasraj.
In 2010, Amba discovered a new modality. The MELT Method® is a revolutionary, neurofascial technique, backed by recent scientific discoveries. Over time and with practice, your body will return to a more ideal state by directly enhancing body awareness, hydrating the connective tissue and quieting the nervous system. She completed a comprehensive certification process and trained exclusively with Sue Hitzman, the creator of the MELT Method®. She offers 1-1 personal sessions, special introductory workshops and on-going series' of classes.
As a result of some personal health challenges that needed a contemporary lens for problem solving, Amba was introduced to Functional Medicine, a modern holistic modality, that also seeks to understand the root causes of modern diseases and is especially focused on the epidemic of chronic illness. Always eager to learn and broaden her skills, she has become certified in Functional Nutrition.
It has been her pleasure to share Ayurveda, yoga, sound, chanting, meditation, wellness, whole foods, natural cooking and conscious living - and now MELT and Functional Nutrition- in classes and workshops locally, around the country and abroad for over 35 years.
As an educator and advocate for healthy living, Amba has written numerous articles, appeared on radio shows and taught cooking classes based on Ayurvedic principles.
She values her role as an educator and is passionate about sharing the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda for the modern world and teaches extensively in both 200 and 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training programs and Yoga Therapy programs around Florida.
Amba has also taught dozens of MELT workshops in Florida since 2011 and has shared MELT with hundreds of people who want to get out of pain and change the way they age. More recently she has begun to teach the philosophy and practices of Functional Nutrition to individual clients and students, eager for the tools to regain their health.
"Sometimes I feel as though I have one foot in the door of ancient wisdom expressed through Ayurveda, Yoga and Kirtan and the other foot in the door of cutting edge modern modalties such as MELT and Functional Nutrition.
Though this has caused me moments of confusion and pause, it has mostly led to the unfoldment of the unique way in which I can be of service.
My personal joy comes from allowing my deepest passions to meet the greatest needs of the world.
I thank you in advance for letting me share creative solutions for your long and vital life, for changing the way you age, and for waking up to your full potential."
